Or, in other words, optimizing your website so that you will start showing up in website searches on Google. That’s why getting started with SEO is a necessary first step for any blogger.

What is Content Optimization?
Content optimization is another way of saying SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. Put simply, SEO helps your site increase visibility when people are searching for certain keywords in Google and other search engines. Obviously the higher visibility your page has in search results, the more likely you are to gain higher traffic, attention, and bring more eyes, customers, and fans to your blog or business.
Why Does SEO Matter?
SEO matters because without it, getting regular traffic and ultimately monetizing your site is going to be pretty difficult.
There are millions of websites out there. And I don’t say this to discourage you, but if your goal is to earn a profit from your blog, then you’ll need to have a killer strategy in place from the beginning. And SEO is always going to be your best bet for generating traffic to your website.
(Pinterest is considered a search engine and also another great tool, but I would recommend learning SEO and then diving into Pinterest as your secondary source of traffic).
On Page vs. Technical SEO
On page SEO is the fun stuff. It’s what you can control on your website. Things like the written content, headlines, alt image, title tags meta descriptions. Inputting on page SEO comes from doing keyword research (figuring out those short and long tail keywords that people are searching for that you have the possibility of ranking for), and figuring out strategic ways to place them on your page.

Technical SEO is a little bit more intricate. It involves the structure of your website and how it’s laid out, the sitemap of your site, overall site speed, URL structure, navigation, and how easily your website can be crawled and indexed.
There’s also something called Off Page SEO. Off page SEO is what you do off your website in order to help boost your search rankings. AKA: Backlinks.
Backlinks are when other high authority websites (preferably) reference back or link back to your website. If a website finds content you’ve written to be helpful to their audience, they have the option of referencing you on their site and ultimately providing a link back to you. Google (and other search engines) look at this as your page then being an authority and more trustworthy, and it can help boost your search ranking results and help push more traffic your way.
